Can I hook up my Onkyo TX-DS898 receiver to a Car audio amp through it’s pre-outs? I have a big 12 volt supply
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009I’m running an onkyo tx-ds898 receiver, I have 2 sets of cerwin vega cabinets re30’s (12’s) and re38’s (15’s). The receiver puts out 110 rms to the fronts. I was going to run that to the 12’s. I also have a 75 amp rms 12 volt power supply, and a kinetic HC1800 high current 12 volt battery. I used to work at a car audio store so I have a bunch of stuff I was thinking of hooking up a Precision Power PC2350, witch will deliver 350 rms to each of my 15’s. But my main question is is this a dumb idea? is it possible to get signal from my home receiver for a car amp? how do you think it will sound? …… I’m just not trying to spend any money on a home amp right now.
I want to build a custom home theater system using car audio. What do i need?

Why can’t I use a car audio amp for my home speakers?
Wednesday, February 25th, 2009Hi,
I have heard that it is not possible to use a car audio amplifier with my home speakers. Can anyone explain to me why not? The only difference I can see is the Ohms – which is probably the whole reason but I would like to understand why specifically. Thanks!
No I wan wanting to use a Car Amplifier in my house with my house speakers. I shouldn’t have a problem getting around the power supply issue. My only question is will I damage my home speakers which are rated at 8 ohms with a car amp which is rated at 4 amps? And are there any other factors that I need to consider with home speakers being compatible with a car amplifier?
